Special needs dentistry provides safe, personalized dental care for patients with physical, cognitive, developmental, or behavioral conditions that make traditional visits challenging.
At Iconic Dental, we’re passionate about treating individuals with a wide range of special healthcare needs—from autism and Down syndrome to traumatic brain injury and complex medical conditions. Our team works closely with families, caregivers, and physicians to develop tailored treatment plans in a calm, supportive environment.
With the help of our in-house anesthesia providers, we can deliver the care these patients need—without fear, stress, or sensory overload. Whether you’ve struggled to find the right care or are seeking a dentist who truly understands your loved one’s needs, we’re here to help.
We provide a spa-like, sensory-considerate environment designed to help patients feel calm and safe from check-in through recovery. For patients with significant dental anxiety or phobia, or those who are unable to tolerate a traditional initial visit, we offer alternative pathways to care—including the option to begin treatment under sedation and complete the comprehensive exam once the patient is comfortable.
For patients who cannot tolerate traditional care, we provide general anesthesia in our outpatient surgery center, overseen by in-house anesthesiologists and nurses.
Many of our patients are referred by physicians, hospitals, and care teams because of our reputation for successfully managing behavioral, developmental, and medical complexities.
Routine care such as cleanings, exams, and fillings can be incredibly challenging for patients with cognitive or behavioral conditions. At Iconic Dental, we offer these services under general anesthesia when needed, which ensures that you receive essential care without trauma, resistance, or fear. By delivering routine dentistry in a safe and controlled environment, we help preserve oral health and reduce long-term complications.
Many special needs patients suffer from dental neglect, pain, or advanced decay due to difficulty accessing care. Our doctors are highly trained in providing full mouth rehabilitation and oral surgery under anesthesia for these patients, addressing years of dental issues in a single visit. We prioritize comfort, compassion, and communication with families every step of the way.
Successful special needs care is rooted in teamwork. We work directly with caregivers, legal guardians, and physicians to understand each patient’s specific challenges and health considerations. From behavioral support to medical risk management, our team develops personalized plans that make quality dental care possible for even the most complex cases.
Every patient begins with a thoughtful consultation where we learn about their medical history, behavioral triggers, past dental experiences, and unique needs. We welcome caregivers and providers to be part of this discussion.
Based on our intake and diagnostics, we create a personalized treatment plan. If general anesthesia is required, our anesthesiologist will review all risks, protocols, and necessary prep steps.
For patients who need general anesthesia, we provide care in our on-site surgical center with a licensed anesthesiology team. Our doctors work efficiently to complete all required treatment in one appointment.
After treatment, we provide personalized aftercare instructions and work with families and care teams to support healing and ongoing preventive care. We want every patient to feel safe returning for future visits.
Special needs dentistry is designed for patients who have physical, developmental, cognitive, sensory, or medical conditions that make traditional dental care challenging. This includes autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, seizure disorders, and many more.
Yes. Many of our special needs patients receive care under general anesthesia. Our licensed anesthesiologists assess each patient’s medical history and work with physicians to ensure it’s a safe and appropriate option.
While we welcome referrals from physicians, care coordinators, or other dental offices, they are not required. You can contact us directly to schedule a consultation—we’ll take care of the rest.
